I had been thinking all this time that the world was almost destroyed 5000 years earlier because the Nihallaks, finding themselves losing the war, activiated their ultimate weapon. And that Zak has been eager to get the fairies to muster overwhelming force and force a surrender asap because if they wait too long, the ship will have the chance to recharge the weapon, after which the Nihallak emporeror would use it again if he felt they were going to lose. And possibly this time, neither side would survive.
Was it actually the Draigjibes that almost destroyed the world, or did both sides have their ultimate weapons of mass destruction, and the world was almost destroyed because they were both used?
It was indeed the Draigjibies. From the nihallak's perspective, their ultimate weapon were the F-jibies as it meant they didn't need the draigjibies anymore and could exterminate them rather than try to capture them alive. The following genocide attempt pushed the draigjibies over the edge and they ended it all.
