You don't have to ask Myri twice...Or even ask at all, really.

Also, public comments are now enabled, I hope I won't regret this 😜

    1. There is. While maximum quality jpeg compression is artifact-free, certain website shrink them down in quality again, automatically. Patreon is one of them. When I started working on the Definitive Edition for FvT, I did some render tests between png and jpeg, and discovered that websites couldn't automatically downgrade png to save bandwidth. I asked my patrons if they'd rather have only png from now on or just save that for the definitive edition, and they said they wanted it for everything. So from now one all my color work will be saved as png. It does result in larger filesizes, but we're not in 2007 anymore, so I don't really see that as an issue.

    2. Maximum quality JPEG compression may be free of any notable visual artifacts, but it's still a 'lossy' compression format. Rather, a JPEG always discards 'some' visual information to reduce the size of the file.

PNG is a 'lossless' compression format, meaning that it tries to reduce the file size while not discarding any visual information at all, hence 'lossless'; zero information 'lost'.

The file size of a PNG will be larger than a JPEG with the same height and width sizes, but still smaller than any 'uncompressed' image formats.
